Today Marks the Beginning of Pre-bookings for the SKODA SLAVIA in India, Which Will Go On Sale in Early 2022
With its world-premiere in India, the all-new Skoda Slavia has been unveiled as the Czech carmaker’s first new from the ground-up sedan for the Indian market in nearly a decade. The Volkswagen Group’s customized-for-India MQB A0 IN platform will be used for the third time by the Skoda Slavia, following the Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun midsize SUVs. Pre-orders for the Skoda Slavia open today, with a planned launch date of early 2022.
Skoda’s Slavia is one of the largest sedans in its class, measuring 4,541 mm in length, 1,752 mm in width, and 1,487 mm in height – drawing design inspiration from the much larger Octavia and Superb sedans. Moreover, the Slavia’s 2,651 mm wheelbase and 521 litre boot further enhance its practicality, making it one of the most versatile midsize sedans on the market today
Crystal Blue will only be offered on the sedan version of the Slavia and will be available on the Active, Ambition and Style trim levels.
According to Skoda, the name “Slavia” was chosen as a tribute to the company’s past, when founders Václav Laurin and Václav Klement sold their own bicycles under the same name in 1896. Skoda hasn’t revealed too much about its new ‘notchback’ sedan, but the company says it will be ‘an elegant, powerful and safe saloon car’ that will follow in the footsteps of its larger, more powerful and luxurious Skoda Octavia and Superb sedans. During the development of the Slavia, Skoda prioritized the comfort and convenience of passengers in the back of the vehicle, as well as driving pleasure.
The Slavia’s interior is similar to the Kushaq’s, but the Slavia has different AC vents and different dashboard trim, as well as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, two-spoke steering wheel, and touch-sensitive climate control panel. Top-spec Slavia will have ventilated front seats, a reverse camera, and an eight-inch full-digital instrument display, all of which are missing from the Kushaq’s interior.
Six airbags, vehicle stability management, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill hold control, tyre pressure monitor, and multi-collision braking are included in the Slavia’s safety package. All models will have electronic stability control as a standard feature.
Two turbo-petrol engines will be offered: a 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI that produces 110 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque; and a larger, four-cylinder, 1.5-liter TSI that produces 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. There will be six-speed manual transmission options for both engines, as well as six-speed torque converter automatics for the 1.0 TSI and seven-speed DSG automatics for the 1.5 TSI (with paddle shifters). No diesel engine will be available; however, the 1.5-liter TSI will feature active-deactivation technology that can improve fuel economy.
To compete with the fifth-generation Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Toyota Belta, expect Skoda Slavia prices to range from Rs 10-17 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition, the Slavia will compete with its Volkswagen cousin, which is expected to be launched a few months after the Slavia.
