Six-year-old Fairphone 2 is Receiving Android 10 Updates
The six-year-old Fairphone 2 will be updated to Android 10 by the Dutch phone company Fairphone. Android 10 beta testing has already begun, and the final code is expected to be released early next year.
With Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, the Fairphone 2 was released in 2015 and has since received updates to Android 6 Marshmallow, 7.1 Nougat, and now Android 9 Pie. Since Android 10 is two years old, the Fairphone 2 will be the first Android smartphone to receive seven years of software updates, which is quite an accomplishment considering that Apple is the only firm that comes close to this level of software support.

The Fairphone 2’s Android 10 version was developed by Indian software developer Bharath Ravi Prakash in under 10 months, eight months less than the time it took to build the Android 9 update.
Fairphone 3 and 3+ owners will be happy to hear that the company plans to begin beta testing Android 11 for these devices this week.
The Fairphone 3 and Fairphone 3+ were released in the following years, in 2019 and 2020. The first had Android 9 Pie pre-installed, while the second had Android 10 pre-installed. Read our hands-on review here or watch the video below to discover more about Fairphone 3+’s features.
