It’s possible that Apple will release an iPhone 14 variant that can only be used with an eSIM
As more service providers around the world adopt the eSIM standard, phones without SIM card slots may become increasingly commonplace. The Wall Street Journal reportedly claims that Apple‘s next-gen iPhone 14 series would feature eSIM-only models in select areas. Apple is not likely to make the transition from physical SIM to eSIM on all of its smartphones, but it may offer an eSIM-only model as a way to gauge consumer interest.
Several major US carriers have reportedly been warned by Apple to get ready for eSIM-only iPhone models coming this Fall. A phone’s SIM slot can be removed for the sole purpose of making room for additional components. Customers will also benefit from improved security thanks to the ability of telecommunications to distribute upgrades to their systems on behalf of millions of users at once.
